This is something I see so much in my clients and did for ages myself. Avoiding triggers doesn’t heal them - they’ll still be waiting for you (often worse than ever) when you do finally have to face them. 👉🏼I’d avoid being vulnerable because it triggered my shame - but the shame remained there. 👉🏼I’d avoid meeting new people because it triggered my feelings of not belonging - but that stayed with me too. 👉🏼I’d avoid speaking in public because it triggered such intense fear in my body. ⭕️It was only from examining these triggers, acknowledging them, looking at where they came from, befriending them and allowing myself to feel everything as I faced my triggers that I’ve been able to stop them holding me back (but, it’s a journey) ⭕️ 👉🏼Triggers are not a sign to avoid.
